Have you driven Capitol Ave between Forrest and Laurel recently? Many Hartford commuters and students travel this corridor daily. Until recently, it has been a disheartening mess. Thanks to the efforts of over 100 volunteers, including a group of enthusiastic volunteers from Ikon who came together on September 26, this stretch of Capitol Ave is becoming a Corridor of Hope.

The High Hopes Achievement College Ladder Program

A Program of Leadership Greater Hartford

Getting to college isn't always easy. These web pages were designed for students of Hartford Public High School and any urban high school to help prepare you for college.

Preparing for college can begin as early as your freshman year in high school -- but if you are further along in high school than that, don't worry!

Now that you are here, click on the Upcoming Events & Seminars to find out about upcoming informational sessions that you can attend. Some of these programs also give you the chance to visit some potential colleges outside the state of Connecticut. So, check it out!

Soon, you will be able to create a customized profile that will help you keep track of all the steps you have taken and information you have acquired to get ready for college. You will create a scorecard that gives you a green, yellow or red light rating in each category. Click here to see an example.

If you click on the Scholarship Search tab above, you can gain information about a number of scholarship programs available to you that you might not have heart about.  The current listing summarizes nine opportunities.

Click on the Selecting A College tab above and you will see great questions to ask yourself when selecting a college.

The far right tab is Find a Mentor.  A Mentor is an adult who, along with your parents, provides you with support, friendship, reinforcement and a motivation to achieve your goals. A Mentor is a good listener, someone who cares, and wants to help you reach your potential.

Take the first step on your College Ladder.
