Leaders on Board Express Match: Open Enrollment

July 13, 2010 - 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

Leaders on Board's main mechanism of matching individuals to nonprofit Board of Directors is the Express Match process which acts as a speed dating system to connect the two. Express match is open enrollment, but first priority is given to those individuals who have attended a LGH Board Member Orientation Workshop.

Participants must preregister for this event. Location details will be provided upon confirmation of attendance.

Leaders on Board is a program created by LGH in partnership with the United Way of the Capital Region and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Designed to fill the region’s need for qualified volunteers to serve on the boards of nonprofit organizations, Leaders on Board takes a unique approach.

Individuals who want to serve on a board, develop their leadership skills and serve the community apply for the program. They receive training in nonprofit organizational structure and management. They are introduced to the role and responsibilities of board members, and are encouraged to explore their skills and interests.

Nonprofit organizations in need of qualified board members also apply for the program. They receive consulting to ensure they have identified board skills needed and will utilize these volunteers well. They get referrals to prospective board members and discounts on LGH training workshops and consulting services.

Qualified individuals and nonprofit managers then meet at an event called Express Match, a sort of speed dating for nonprofits. Quick introductions in a structured environment, using a tested method, allow all parties to efficiently ascertain whether there is a match in their needs and interests.

LGH facilitates the matches, putting people in touch with nonprofits where mutual interest was expressed. We support you in the match and provide follow-up to monitor your success.
