Thomas Clifford (Quest 2010) is the winner, for the second year in a row, of the Hartford Business Journal’s 2010 Strateg-e award in the Best Use of Blogs category.  Tom's goal as a blogger is to "continue providing unique insights, information and practical tips that will help humanize business messages for greater employee or customer engagement." Victoria (Tory) Woodin Chavey (Quest 2002), Attorney at Law recently left Day Pitney to join Jackson Lewis LLP in Hartford. (2/22)

Jennifer Smith Turner (LGH Affiliate Member) will receive one of the Hartford Business Journal’s 2010 Women in Business Annual Awards. (2/22)

Michael Harrington (Quest 2002 and LGH Board of Directors) and his wife Corinne welcomed baby Finnian (Finn) Harrington (8 pounds 15 ounces, 21 inches) into the world February 9. (2/15)

Evelyn C. Mantilla (American Leadership Forum XIV and Quest 1993) was recently appointed Communications Manager for the City of Hartford Department of Health and Human Services.  She is working on a pilot site project for the Health Equity Alliance, addressing health inequities as a social justice issue. Yanil Terón, on right, (Quest 2004) was elected as the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Northeast Affiliate Council Representative.  NCLR is the largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.  The NCLR Northeast Region is comprised of thirty-nine organizations.  Yanil has served as the Executive Director of Connecticut Puerto Rican Forum since 2007. Cheeneah Armstrong (Executive Orientation Program 2006) received Hartford Magazine’s Black Women of Achievement Award.  (2/3)

Ana Sanchez-Adorno (Neighborhood Program Class 1) was named one of the Hartford Business Journal’s 2009 Health Care Heroes. (2/3)

 

Roxanna Booth (Quest 2009 and EOP 2003) (4th from right back row) recently accepted a position at Real Art Ways as Individual Giving Manager.  She also wants to promote an outgrowth of her Quest (class photo) task force project: The Harriet Beecher Stowe house will feature Matt Bennett co-founder of the Purpose Project at the February 25 Salon, "Young People Make a Difference.”  (1/25)

Judy Carey (former LGH Board member) received the Spirit Award from Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. (1/25)

Tom Hanley (Quest 1988) is counting down the days until 1-11-11, the opening of the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, a member of Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he is the Director of Communications. This is Tom's second children's hospital opening, having previously been Director of Public Relations for Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. It is also his second Leadership class experience, as he is an alum of the Leadership Grand Rapids class of 2008. (1/25)

Lee Erdmann (Quest 1980, ALF XVI and LGH Board Member) has been appointed to serve as the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer for the City of Springfield, MA. Lee has served Hartford and the larger community for more than 30 years in a variety of key posts, most recently as the capital city’s COO. (1/13)

 

Chris Clarke (Quest 2007 and LGH Board member) has accepted a position with MassMutual.  Hi new title is Agent Training Consultant. (1/13)

 

Robert Cotto, Jr. (Common Ground) has been elected to the Hartford School Board. (1/13)

 

Billie Scruse (Quest 1996) is new Executive Director Hartford Public Access Television. (1/13)

Transitions of Note:

James Schumaker (Third Age Initiative Class 5) passed away suddenly in February. (3/10)

Debra Campagna (Quest 1991and STRETCH Class 4) died in a car accident recently after a long bout with cancer.  She participated in Quest when she headed the CCMC Foundation. (2/22)

Lanna Hagge (EOP 1998) died unexpectedly January 20 at Hartford Hospital. (1/25)

Micah Carbonneau (Common Ground) will soon complete three years of Peace Corps service in Romania.  He will close his service June 15.  Then, he will decide whether to attempt a transfer to a program in Africa. (1/13)

Events and Happenings:

Smart Growth Conference by 1,000 Friends of Connecticut, Thursday, March 18th, from 2-8pm, in the beautifully restored G. Fox Building, on Main Street, Hartford. "Old Challenges, New Opportunities" will highlight the rare opportunities we face in growing smart during these challenging economic times. Spirituality in A World of Change,  a program to benefit the Jubilee House Adult Education Center: A Ministry of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 7pm at the Covenant of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, 27 Park Road, West Hartford.  Hear Sister Miriam Therese Winter, composer, author, musician, founder and faculty member of the Women's Institute at Hartford Seminary. Jennifer Sager (Quest 2009) announces the 2010 Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford’s Annual Spring Gala, to celebrate their 150th anniversary.  Evening features a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, and a sit-down dinner. Acclaimed American actor, Courtney Vance, will Emcee and three time US Olympian, Dominique Dawes, will deliver the keynote address. CT Convention Center, Hartford, Thursday, March 25, 5:30–8:30pm. The Hartford Children’s Theatre (HCT) honors Ted Carroll, President of Leadership Greater Hartford, with its 2010 Kid at Heart Award.  The 2010 Kid at Heart Gala celebrates 20 years of Enchantment on Saturday, March 27th at 5:30PM.  HCT enriches the lives of the children of Greater Hartford by providing access and exposure to high quality theatre for young audiences and related educational opportunities.  Click here for more information.
