Leadership Greater Hartford's
Community Involvement Events
Members often want to relive the community involvement and connection they experienced during their Leadership Greater Hartford training. We make these opportunities available on a regular basis. Whether you are looking for a hands-on experience to share with family or friends, a large gathering for inspiration, or a long term service commitment, we can help.
Hartford Cares creates events to inspire conversations, connections and commitments. It began in June 2008 with a candlelight vigil in Bushnell Park after a spate of violence in Hartford. Thousands from the region were moved by stories of hope and courage, artistic performances and the call to act as a unified and caring community. That Fall we brought Dr. Bill Cosby to speak about education and responsibility to Hartford High students and families, and students from our High Hopes program organized anti-violence marches. More recently, volunteers spent hundreds of hours creating a “corridor of hope” along a forbidding stretch of Capitol Avenue where commuters and students pass daily.
Our youth programs are often in need of adult mentors and activity leaders. You have the opportunity to participate, tailoring the level of involvement and the frequency to suit your schedule.
Leaders on Board is a service that helps you connect your skills and passions with nonprofit groups where you can make a difference. Members are trained in the roles and responsibilities of nonprofit board members, to feel comfortable serving on these governing bodies, and are matched with vetted organizations that are seeking volunteers.
