"Experience the Art of Leadership" a Huge Success!

Almost 800 leaders from across Hartford and around the world gathered for the 2006 CLA Conference two weeks ago.  Over 350 attendees from as far away as Australia visited Hartford for the first time, and raved about our great city, the fabulous tours we offered them, the stunning Wadsworth Atheneum, and spectacular Convention Center.  Over 100 LGH friends and members donned aprons and volunteered throughout the 3-day conference, charming our visitors with their friendliness, generosity, and enthusiasm for Hartford and LGH.  A special thank you to every volunteer who supported this huge effort, our event co-chairs Betty Domer and Paul McCary, and our generous sponsors,  who made it all possible. Click here to see a brief recap of the event and a list of our sponsors.

Those gathered on Friday, April 28, heard from the phenomenal Doris Kearns Goodwin and Rushworth Kidder, in addition to fabulous workshop presenters.  CT-N filmed both keynote addresses, and is airing them as "Leadership Greater Hartford Annual Meeting" on their local stations and on their website.  Click here to see check the schedule for future airdates, or to purchase a video or DVD of both speeches ( $25 for VHS or $30 for DVD).

Two Great Programs Next week....

History of Hartford

Trinity College historian Andrew Walsh will present the first in a new series of lectures on the history of Hartford co-sponsored by the Greater Hartford Arts Council.  This first lecture will be Tuesday, May 16, from 5:30-7 p.m. at The Hartford Club.  $35 includes hors d’oeuvres and cash bar before the lecture. Limited seating – reserve today by contacting the Arts Council at 525-8629 x227 or visit their website by clicking here.

Our new partner – Peer to Peer Advisors brings together business leaders in well-matched advisory boards; each group meets monthly, with the members advising each other – helping each other succeed.  LGH is very excited about this alignment of mission and resources, where the expertise of Peer to Peer Advisors helps our members be more effective and become better networked throughout the business community.

Peer to Peer Advisors will hold two Open Forum introductory sessions for our dues-paying members.  They are scheduled for Wednesday May 17 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM and Thursday May 18 from 8:00 – 9:30 AM at The Hartford Club.  We invite you to attend one of the two sessions to learn more about Peer to Peer Advisors. If you choose to participate in the program or attend future functions, LGH dues-paying members will receive discounts on registration and participant fees.

To register for the Open Forum meeting or for more information, go to www.peertopeeradvisors.com or contact Ken Cook, Managing Director, at 866-965-4242.

Member to Member...

On Tuesday, May 16, from 2-5 p.m., you may be among the “Fortunate 500” who receive a phone call from a fellow LGH Member.  During the call, you will be asked to give support to our community leadership training efforts in one of two ways.  You may be asked to become a dues-paying Member of LGH so that we can continue to serve you and other program graduates with first-rate educational, civic involvement and professional networking experiences.  If you’re already a dues-paying Member, we will first be thanking you, and then offering you an opportunity to help us serve others in the community by making a financial contribution to our Leadership Development Fund.

If you’d like to pre-empt the phone call, please make your dues payment and/or charitable contribution at this time by contacting Stacie Rabinowitz.  If you’d like to be part of the telethon fun, please contact Ted Carroll or call him at 951-6161 x17 so that we can add you to the list of callers.  Thanks in advance for your support!
