Are You...

  • A high school sophomore or junior ready to explore your similarities and differences with other students in the region?

  • Attending school in Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Glastonbury, Newington, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, West Hartford or Windsor?

  • Ready to show yourself, your family, and your community that you are a leader?

Can You...

  • Imagine yourself with 40 other high school students from across Greater Hartford, exploring your similarities and differences, to find Common Ground?

  • The Common Ground program is a comprehensive learning encounter which focuses on leadership skill development, diversity and community service. Students become active, competent and responsible leaders in their homes, schools, religious institutions and communities, with a heightened sensitivity to racial, social, religious and socioeconomic issues.

  • The program begins with a team-building camp weekend, and continues the following 14 Wednesdays, from 3 to 6PM at the Metro Center, located at 350 Church Street in downtown Hartford. Common Ground participants expand their horizons through career forums and a cultural celebration.

You Will...

  • Step outside of your neighborhood for a “School Exchange” and visit a high school that is socially and racially different from your own.

  • Plan and organize a class community service project and/or choose an individual service project of your own.

  • These lessons culminate with a formal graduation ceremony where you will have an opportunity to use the public speaking skills you have developed to speak about your experience.
