American Leadership Forum

Seventeen seasoned leaders from across the region came together in June to begin a year-long experience of conceptual and theoretical learning, bonding and community problem solving as American Leadership Forum’s Class XXIII.

ALF, Leadership Greater Hartford’s graduate level program, utilizes a unique model for change aimed at clarifying one’s personal leadership values, developing a commitment to serve in a "network of responsibilities," broadening awareness of the region, and recognizing leadership resources in all sectors of society.

The class completed a 5-day Outward Bound experience in New Jersey. Since then they have been meeting for monthly training sessions and a tour of the city focused around three regional issues.

Executive Orientation Program

The Spring 2008 class interacted with key leaders, toured popular and unusual Hartford venues, and learned about regional issues from people in the news. Highlights from this class included:

A look at Economic Development in the region hosted by The Hartford’s President & CEO Tom Marra.
A discussion of the Colt legacy and tour of Good Shepherd Church with Jack Hale, Executive Director Knox Parks Foundation.
A look at Hartford’s public housing with Alan Green, Executive Director Hartford Housing Authority.
A visit with Linda Kelly, President Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
A night hosted by the Hartford Courant to explore Major Issues facing Hartford and the region with Stephen Carver, President, Clifford Teutsch, Editor and Carolyn Lumsden, Editorial Page Editor.
Time with Hartford’s Mayor Eddie Perez as well as Deputy Chief of Police, John Horvath.
An evening on the Connecticut River with Joe Marfuggi, President Riverfront Recapture and Ted Sergi, President & CEO CT Science Center
