Summer Nexus - Where Young
Leaders Make Lasting Connections
Imagine
....
assembling 40 of the brightest young leaders representing public and
private schools in Greater Hartford.
Picture
.... equipping them with the tools, experiences and
knowledge they’ll need to overcome the challenges that face today’s
leaders.
Envision ... young leaders engaging in dialogue with established
leaders, meaningful leadership seminars, powerful service
opportunities, and debates on ethical leadership.
Summer Nexus is an
interactive and intensive program designed to prepare exemplary high
school leaders to assume and excel in leadership roles in their
respective schools, communities, future colleges, and professional
careers. Summer Nexus will choose only the most qualified high school
students from the area’s most prestigious prep schools and bring these
students together with select talented students from the Hartford public
high schools. The results will be a diverse cadre of young leaders with
perspective, knowledge, confidence, and the preparation to seize the
leadership torch for their generation. Dynamic trainers will engage
students in the following activities throughout the two week session:
-
Engage in a day-long
orientation challenge at a local ropes course.
-
Learn theoretically
and practically the five Practices of Exemplary Leadership™.
-
Gain the perspective
and self-confidence necessary to be an effective leader by
participating in workshops on leadership styles, diversity, public
speaking, conflict management, interactive decision-making and more.
Program Features:
-
Leadership lunches
with established leaders from Greater Hartford like Hartford Mayor
Eddie Perez; Linda Kelly, Executive Director of the Hartford
Foundation for Public Giving; and Jim Jones, President of Trinity
College.
-
Leadership NOW –
students will travel to various and significant sites in Greater
Hartford where they will participate in activities such as serving
lunch and speaking with the director at a soup kitchen, talk with
members of Hartford’s City Council, plant trees with the Knox Parks
Foundation.

Leadership discussions
at Trinity College where students can debate the challenge of
ethical leadership.

On Par with LGH
Join LGH President Ted Carroll for a fun-filled round of golf at
Hartford’s beautiful Keney Park Friday, August 1, 2008 at 12 Noon.
In light of tight economic times, LGH is keeping the price low. At $75
per golfer, it’s likely to be among the least expensive golf events of
the season. Given the people we are inviting, it will likely be the most
fun!
The price covers 18 holes, a cart, a light lunch and the first round at
the 19th hole. Proceeds will assist our youth leadership efforts so our
overhead costs will be low (no printed invitation or prizes).
Contact Andre Santiago at
andre.santiago@leadershipgh.org
to reserve your spot. Whether you register as a foursome,
a pair or a solo player, we’ll match you up with great new and old
friends!
