Leadership Greater Hartford's Youth Programs
Building Emerging Leaders
Leadership Greater Hartford offers several programs for high school students to help them broaden their horizons, meet others from diverse backgrounds, learn the value of community service, and tap their own leadership potential.
Common Ground has provided semester-long leadership training experiences to city and suburban high school sophomores and juniors since 1988. Each semester, 40 participants experience a leadership retreat, meet community leaders, visit each others’ schools, learn about themselves, develop their leadership skills, and plan and carry out a project in the community. Students learn to understand, respect and cooperate with people from diverse backgrounds while having fun and building self-confidence.
Summer Nexus provides an intense two-week summer education and leadership experience in August for high school students. Full day sessions introduce teens to community organizations and area leaders. Leadership skills training is put into practice in a culminating community service activity.
High Hopes is a partnership with Hartford Public High School. It provides year-long academic, enrichment and recreational activities. Students develop their potential by engaging in a wide range of activities including art, community service projects, theater, media, and internships.
