Leadership Greater Hartford's

Since 1988, Common Ground has brought together high school sophomores and juniors to explore similarities and differences, learning about leadership while having fun with other students from the region.  A diverse group of 40 students participates each semester from high schools in Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Glastonbury, Newington, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield, West Hartford, and Windsor.

In Common Ground, teens make new friends and step out of their usual routines and groups with a visit to a school that is socially, economically and racially different from their own.  They learn and explore their abilities in workshops on everything from public speaking and decision-making to diversity and volunteering.

They will spend a weekend at a team-building class retreat at the wonderful Camp Jewell. Participants will help plan, organize and implement a class community service project.  This life-changing experience helps teens grow, gain confidence and maturity, and prepare for college.

Congratulations to Common Ground Class 46. Thirty eight students from 10 different high schools successfully completed 15 weeks of intense leadership training and development.
